A Bomberman-style game with penguins

BomberPengu is a free online Bomberman-style game set in an icy arena. Place bombs, break ice blocks, collect power-ups, and outplay your opponent. Play online, practice against bots, or join weekly tournaments.

How to play BomberPengu

  1. Select Fight to send a challenge, or choose a player in the lobby. The match starts when your challenge is accepted.
  2. Move with the arrow keys or WASD. Press Space to place a bomb and move out of the blast path.
  3. Break ice blocks to reveal bonuses. Solid ice blocks stop explosions and cannot be destroyed.
  4. Survive the explosion and defeat your opponent. Use Play Again after a round to continue your match session.

Bonuses and tactics

Extra bombs let you place more bombs at once. Flippers increase your movement speed, and blast-range bonuses extend your explosions. Collect the kick bonus to push bombs across the arena. Leave yourself an escape route: your own bombs can defeat you too.

Practice before your next duel

Choose Practice Play Offline to practise movement, bomb placement and kicking. Try a map with blocks or an empty arena, and select a bot skill level from 1 to 5. Use Apply / Go to apply your settings and start a fresh round.

Play on your computer

BomberPengu uses keyboard controls and is designed for desktop and laptop browsers. No Flash plugin or game installation is required. Click the arena to return keyboard control to the game after using chat. Use Full screen for a larger view, and press Escape to leave full-screen mode.

Tournaments

Compete in scheduled BomberPengu tournaments with up to 8 players. Games start automatically, with a countdown before your turn. Check the Tournament card for the next event: its date and time are shown in your local time zone.

Earn 100 coins for first place, 50 for second and 30 for third. All other players selected at Check In receive 5 coins for participation.

How to join

  1. Sign in to an active, unrestricted account and select Join on the Tournament card. Registration opens when an event is announced and closes at its scheduled start. You can leave before registration closes.
  2. The in-game Tournament button becomes available one hour before the start. Open it early and stay in tournament mode so the server can confirm your presence and measure your ping.
  3. Check your status on the Check In tab. Q means you currently qualify; selection is finalised at the scheduled start. Registering alone does not guarantee a place.
  4. Once selected, stay connected and ready. Your games start automatically. Guests can view the standings and bracket but cannot enter the tournament.
Check In and connection requirements
  • At least 2 eligible players must be present at the start, otherwise the tournament is cancelled. Up to 8 players are selected.
  • Your ping must be 200 ms or lower. Check In uses the median of measurements from the last 30 seconds; one fresh measurement is enough. Above 150 ms a warning is shown. Players without a fresh measurement or with ping above 200 ms are not selected.
  • Eligible players are ordered by rating, highest first. Ties favour accounts registered earlier, then account ID. Joining earlier does not improve your priority.
Qualifications: format, points and ranking

With 3–8 selected players, everyone plays everyone else twice. Each pair plays both games consecutively, switching yellow and red sides for the second game.

  • Win: 3 points. Draw: 1 point. Loss: 0 points.
  • Each game has a 5-minute limit. Reaching the limit results in a draw.
  • Ties in points are resolved by points in games between the tied players, then rating at the start of the tournament, then account ID.

Play Off, final and third place

Play Off uses a seeded elimination bracket. Higher-ranked players face lower-ranked players, with the top two seeds in opposite halves.

  • Each series is first to 5 wins. Sides switch after each game. Draws do not add a win.
  • Each game has a 10-minute limit. Reaching the limit results in a draw.
  • Two time-limit draws in one series, even if not consecutive, disqualify both players. Ordinary draws do not count towards this limit.
  • When there are semifinals, eligible semifinal losers play a third-place series, also first to 5 wins. Disqualified players do not advance or enter the third-place match.
  • An empty bracket slot gives the remaining opponent an automatic advance. If both finalists are disqualified, first and second place are not awarded; third place is decided independently.

  • Coins are added to your account automatically when the tournament finishes.
  • A place reward replaces the participation reward: the winner receives 100 coins in total, not 105.
  • You must pass Check In and be selected for the tournament. Registration alone does not earn coins.
  • If a place is not awarded, its prize is not paid. Selected players without an awarded place receive the participation reward.
Game schedule, absence and rating
  • There is a break of at least 1 minute after Qualifications and between Play Off rounds (1/8 → 1/4 → 1/2 → Final and Third place). The break starts when the last match of the preceding stage finishes. The two-player direct final skips Qualifications.
  • Up to two games can run at the same time. The countdown before a new opponent is 10 seconds; the pause between games against the same opponent is 3 seconds.
  • You must be present when your game starts. There is no waiting period: an absent player receives a technical loss. In Play Off this counts as one game loss; if both players are absent, the series ends without a winner.
  • A tournament game affects rating only when both players have at least 50 rated games. Otherwise it is unrated, but still counts towards tournament results.
  • After completion, the in-game tournament view remains accessible for 6 hours. Awarded places appear on the Tournament card until the next event replaces it.
